T01.00001: Richard A. Isaacson Award in Gravitational-Wave Science (2021): Opening the gravitational-wave window: a personal perspective Invited Speaker: Beverly K. Berger The ability to detect astronomically produced gravitational waves with instruments built for that purpose provides a new way to observe the universe. But this did not happen by accident. It required decades-long efforts by thousands of people across many fields of science and technology. My view of the essential ingredients for our current era of discovery will be presented. T01.00002: The LIGO Detectors: Sensitivity and Challenges Invited Speaker: Anamaria Effler The LIGO instruments have made possible the now common detection of gravitational waves, advancing our astrophysical understanding. The cadence of LIGO operations is of interspersed data taking and instrumental upgrades, allowing for enhancements in sensitivity in each subsequent observing run. I will give an overview of the LIGO detectors, highlighting some of the successes in sensitivity improvements, and also some of the current and future technical challenges for some of the most intricate instruments ever constructed. T01.00003: Compact Binaries in Advanced LIGO and Virgo's Third Observing Run Invited Speaker: Surabhi Sachdev Advanced LIGO and Virgo conducted their third observing run between 1 April 2019 and 27 March 2020. Data from this observing run is the most sensitive gravitational-wave data recorded so far. I will discuss the status and the latest results of gravitational-wave searches for compact binary coalescences during this third observing run. [Preview Abstract] |
