Abstract: W01.00001 : Movie Night: The Bit Player (Hosted by Physics Magazine)
7:00 PM–9:00 PM
Author:
After documenting the discovery of the Higgs boson in Particle Fever, film director Mark Levinson has created The Bit Player (https://thebitplayer.com) to celebrate the work and personality of Claude Shannon, the "father of information theory." Combining interviews with scientists, animations, archival films, and commentary from Shannon himself, the movie tells the compelling story of an overlooked genius who revolutionized the world without losing his childlike curiosity. Shannon’s work remains highly relevant to modern day technology, from 5G to quantum communications. A Q&A with director Mark Levinson will follow the screening.
