Spin Squeezing as a Probe of Quantum Materials*

A nuclear spin squeezed state describes the quantum state of the collective spin for which the variance of one of the spin angular momentum components is below the Standard Quantum Limit. Spin squeezing techniques can be naturally implemented in systems with interacting and/or entangled spin ensembles. We present a novel Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) method based on using nuclear spin squeezed states to locally probe emergent orders in quantum materials (e.g. orbital order).
