Electronic devices of thin crystals of sodium iridate*

Sodium iridate (Na₂IrO₃) is predicted to present exciting phenomena thanks to the honeycomb arrangement of its iridium ions and the interplay of electronic correlations and spin-orbit coupling, making it a close experimental incarnation of the Kitaev-Heisenberg model. Magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity measurements in this material have shown signature of magnetic ordered states [1]. Our Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) experiments have shown additionally the presence of a metallic feature near the Fermi energy, consistent with other experiments [2] identified as a surface state. Here we present electronic transport measurements on thin crystals of Na₂IrO₃ that aim to address and control magnetic ordered ground states in this material.
