The system MgX2A4, X=Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, A=S, Se is a spinel in which the X atoms form a 3D Kagome structure. If the X-X interactions are antiferromagnetic then the system will have geometric frustration. Calculations using WIEN2k show that the antiferromagnetic state has lower symmetry.
