We have newly developed three separate diagnostics to characterize the radial current distribution within the sheared-flow-stabilized Z pinch: a single-axis B-dot probe, a three-axis Hall probe, and an imaging polarimetry system vis-à-vis Faraday rotation. The B-dot loop consists of a loop of wire while the Hall probe consists of a circuit-board-mounted chip. Both were inserted into the vacuum chamber on a rigid translatable shaft. This shaft was observed to perturb the plasma, demonstrating the need for a non-perturbative diagnostic such as polarimetry. Here, we measured the rotation of the polarization of an incident laser beam as it traversed the magnetic field. This presentation discusses the development of and results from these diagnostics.
