Abstract: GP11.00110 : Magnetized sheath dynamics in the presence of secondary electron emission*

The plasma sheath which develops in the channels of devices such as tokamaks and Hall thrusters forms in the presence of magnetic fields and impacts of particles with the material wall. In order to properly simulate sheath dynamics for these applications, both of these factors must be accounted for. This work uses the Gkeyll code to do continuum kinetic simulations of the magnetized plasma sheath in fusion parameter regimes. Models capturing secondary electron emission effects due to plasma-material interactions are applied at the boundary, with discussion of the relevance and limitations of different implementations. Cases are presented to demonstrate how different magnetic field configurations and particle emission can change the formation and structure of the plasma sheath.
