Abstract: CP11.00097 : Low recycling regime with 25 MW/20 s fusion power at 4 MW/120 keV NBI with Q_DT > 6 for JET DT experiment

In 1997, 16 MW of fusion power with fusion efficiency factor Q_DT=0.6 was demonstrated in DT experiment on JET tokamak for a fraction of second. Also, 6 MW of fusion power was produced for 5 s with efficiency Q_DT=0.25. The incoming DT experiment on JET has a
challenge to exceed these earlier results. It is not obvious that this can be done if the same high recycling regime with insufficient confinement, high heating power and numerous
other plasma physics issues will be adopted. The low (50 \%) recycling regime represents
the alternative to this approach. Recently, it becomes realistic for implementation with invention of continuously flowing liquid lithium technology (24/7-FLiLi), which suppresses plasma cooling by recycling. This regime represents the best possible confinement with robust stability, reduced NBI power, absence of the power extraction problem. The presented transport simulations with P_DT=16-30 MW, P_NBI=24$ MW, Q_{DT}=5-9, plasma density
0.2-0.3e+20 and ion/electron temperatures T_i=25-40,T_e=18-25 keV, energy confinement time tau_E=4-6 s demonstrate the real JET tokamak capacities for fusion energy. Amazing properties of 24/7-FLiLi system compared to the present approach to tokamak fusion are also described.
