TriSol: Improving RIBs at the University of Natre Dame*

TwinSol, a pair of coupled superconducting solenoids at the University of Notre Dame Nuclear Science Laboratory, has been a powerful tool for producing unstable beams. For the past couple of decades there was an abundance of work done to study the structure of nuclei, both stable and unstable. In order to meet the need for more precision nuclear data, the system has been upgraded with the addition of a 15 degree bending magnet, a third solenoid, and a set of variable slits. The improvements to beam quality that this upgraded system, TriSol, yields has been systematically studied. A variety of radioactive ion beams have been studied with TriSol, including ⁸B, ¹¹C, ¹⁴O, and ¹⁷F. The details of the new system will be presented and the enhancements discussed.
