Study the effects of various forces on particle transport and deposition*

The dispersion and deposition of small particles in wall-bounded turbulent flows is a very complex phenomenon and thus, a detailed understanding of it requires identification of effects of various forces on particles. However, to simplify the process, effects of several forces are often neglected. More specifically, effects of the Pressure gradient, Added mass and Basset history forces are assumed to be negligible in point particle-direct methodology and mostly the drag force is assumed to be the dominant force controlling the particle deposition. This study aims to explore the effect of such forces on particle dispersion and deposition in a fully developed turbulent channel flow. We perform PP--DNSs (point particle - direct numerical simulation) for small particles with different density ratios to laden fluid density, i.e. aerosols and hydrosols, with the assumption of a dilute system.

Our purpose is to evaluate the relevance of these forces in the deposition of small particles in different media.
