By polarising or reorienting particles, external flows and confining boundaries modify these spontaneous collective dynamics profoundly, which then result from a complex interplay between self-propulsion, chemotactic reorientation, confinement and shear-induced reorientation. Using a kinetic model and numerical simulations, we consider the complex interplay of self-propulsion, chemotaxis, confinement and shear-induced reorientation. Depending on their relative influence, different regimes of self-organisation are observed that differ in their temporal variability and spatial symmetries. The effect of confinement and shear intensity will be analysed more specifically to identify the rheological impact via the modification of the active stresses distribution generated by the particles and identify some potential control strategies.
