Progress towards entanglement enhanced Bragg interferometer*

Laser-cooled atoms interacting via photon-mediated interactions are versatile platforms for quantum simulation and sensing. Previously, we realized momentum-exchange interactions in which pairs of atoms exchange their momentum states via collective emission and absorption of photons from a common cavity mode [1]. The observed one-axis-twisting dynamics induced by this interaction can generate entanglement between momentum states of the atoms without coupling to the internal degree of the atoms. Here, we report on the progress towards direct squeezing of the momentum states of the atoms using the exchange interaction. A key challenge in going beyond the mean field with this interaction is the reduction of the noise introduced by the dressing laser used to inject the interaction.
