A dual-species Rydberg array*

The imminent frontier for quantum information science is scaling to large system sizes while retaining simple control hardware for primitives such as quantum non-demolition measurement and auxiliary-qubit-based control. In this talk, I will present a dual-species Rydberg tweezer array architecture of rubidium and cesium atoms that enables native crosstalk-free implementations of these protocols, and additionally provides access to new regimes of interactions and dynamics not available in single-species systems [1]. By electrically tuning the Rydberg states close to a Förster resonance [2], we achieve enhanced interspecies interactions and demonstrate the first inter-element Rydberg blockade. Leveraging the blockade, we then generate a Bell state between Rb and Cs hyperfine qubits. The combination of interspecies entanglement with native midcircuit readout [3] further allows the quantum non-demolition measurement of a Rb qubit using an auxiliary Cs qubit. These results demonstrate the building blocks for scalable measurement-based protocols and real-time feedback control in large quantum systems, as required for quantum error correction and measurement-based state preparation.
