DAMIC-M
- The DAMIC-M (DArk Matter In CCDs at Modane) experiment searches for sub-GeV dark matter particles with scientific grade charged-coupled devices (CCDs). The skipper readout implemented in CCDs enables single electron resolution through multiple non-destructive measurements of the pixel charge, pushing the detection threshold to the eV-scale. DAMIC-M aims to search for low-mass WIMPs, as well as much lighter hidden sector particles. The DAMIC-M detector, to be installed underground at the Modane Underground Laboratory (LSM) in France, will feature an array of 208 CCDs with a target mass of 700 grams of silicon. It aims for a radio background goal below 1 event/keV/kg/day. We report the latest progress in the construction of the DAMIC-M detector, scheduled for commissioning in LSM by 2025. We also present first results from 20 grams of skipper CCDs deployed in the Low Background Chamber (LBC), which has operated in LSM since 2021.
