Update on the MUon proton Scattering Experiment (MUSE)*

In 2010 the Proton Radius Puzzle (PRP) came into being when the CREMA collaboration measured the proton radius using muonic hydrogen spectroscopy to be 4% smaller than, and completely incompatible with, the accepted value. Since that time, many new measurements have occurred in muonic and atomic hydrogen spectroscopy and in electron scattering, but the puzzle remains unresolved. The MUon proton Scattering Experiment (MUSE) was motivated by the PRP, but also enables the direct measurement of two-photon effects in muon and electron scattering on the proton. MUSE will allow direct comparison of cross sections and form factors in simultaneous muon and electron elastic scattering measured in the PiM1 beam line at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland. We will report on the current status and outlook of MUSE, which has begun production data taking, and is anticipated to continue measurement until 2025.
