Preliminary Short-Lived Fission Product Yield Results via Lāpaki γ-γ Array with the Oregon State University TRIGA Reactor Rabbit Facility*

Fission product yields (FPYs) play an important role for nuclear reactor fuel cycle, nuclear reactor decay heat, and nuclear reactor waste inventory. Multiple techniques have been used to determine fission product yields for many decades to support reactor design. We performed γ-ray spectroscopy on short-lived β-decaying fission products following an irradiation at the Oregon State University (OSU) Training, Research, Isotopes, General Atomics (TRIGA) reactor. The measurement started within 3 seconds of the irradiation. The experimental setup utilized the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) Lāpaki γ-γ array, LLNL’s high-purity polyethylene rabbit, and OSU’s rabbit facility. This work will present preliminary ²³⁸U FPY results. Future work includes finalizing ²³⁸U FPY results, performing short-lived FPY measurements at the Godiva-IV critical assembly, and short-lived FPY measurements at the LLNL’s Maui D-T generator.
