Engaging in simulations of this nature presents a complex mathematical challenge, requiring solving many coupled second-order, non-linear, partial differential equations derived from Einstein's equations, coupled with hydrodynamics. The process of preparing a numerical setup for such simulations is a multistep, sophisticated problem. An essential aspect of this setup is creating Initial Data (ID).
For the initiation of these simulations, it is crucial to have realistic IDs that precisely capture the pre-merger orbital state of both stars. Our approach involves the utilization of the SGRID code, a tool developed by the numerical relativity group at FAU. This code enables us to generate IDs for binary systems with arbitrary masses, spins, orbital eccentricities, and equation of state. To integrate these IDs into the Einstein Toolkit, we've developed a Cactus thorn named DNSdata, allowing to import and using SGRID IDs by ET for further simulations.
We will discuss the advantages of the SGRID code for ID creation, the details of the DNSdata thorn and the results of simulation.
