A hybrid search for neutrinos with the Askaryan Radio Array*

The Askaryan Radio Array (ARA) is an in-ice ultrahigh energy (UHE, >10 PeV) neutrino experiment at the South Pole that aims to detect radio emission from neutrino-induced particle showers. ARA has 5 independent stations each consisting of a cubical lattice of in-ice antenna clusters with side length ~10m buried ~200 m below the ice surface. The fifth station of ARA (A5) has an additional central string, the phased array (PA), which provides an interferometric trigger — significantly improving sensitivity to low SNR events. In this talk, we will present initial results from a neutrino search leveraging the "hybrid" nature of A5 by combining information from both the traditional ARA antennas and the PA. This analysis lays the foundation for future hybrid neutrino searches with the next generation of in-ice neutrino experiments.
