Exploring electromagnetic and gravitational wave constraints on the dense matter equation of state.*

The Nuclear Equation of state (EoS) is an essential ingredient to determining the outcome of a neutron star mergers. Recent observations of both single neutron stars and merging neutron stars, most famously the gravitational wave event GW170817 and a few crucial X-ray pulse-profiles, have provided incredible insight into the high nuclear density EoS. While some of these seem congruent, others are in modest tension with respect to the Mass-Radius region predicted for those neutron stars. In this talk, we will present our investigation of this tension where we apply Bayesian inference to identify regions that are supported as successive observations are implied. We developed a new adaptive Bayesian inference engine - HyperPipe - that explores the space of a parameteric model to obtain the posterior (to any fiducial data) and better highlights and quantifies these EoS tensions separately from the prior.
