T02.00001: Animating the Science: Astro2020 DEIA Priorities, Actions, and Opportunities Invited Speaker: Kathryne Daniel The National Academies 2020 Decadal Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics (Astro2020) was the seventh of its kind, charting a clear course for the scientific priorities of coming decade. It was also the first to successfully include a full panel review reflecting on the human foundation that animates this great endeavor. The Panel on the State of the Profession and Societal Impacts was charged to review current demographics, diversity and inclusion efforts, workplace climate, workforce development, education, public outreach, and relevant areas of public policy, and then make concrete, actionable suggestions. The final report made it plain that in order to address these issues we must invest in a well organized, multi-faceted, intentional approach at all levels. In this talk, I will give an overarching summary of this report and discuss the underlying framework that informed our suggestions. I will then discuss ways in which each of us is well poised to implement these suggestions, to transform science culture, and to cultivate a thriving and diverse community of scientists. |

T02.00002: Strategies for Drafting a Successful Inclusion Plan Invited Speaker: Dara Norman The requirement for building inclusion plans into grant proposals is becoming more common. NASA’s ATP experiment to require such plans demonstrated that the majority of astronomers are lacking in their understanding of how to approach this requirement. Many were also unable to craft plans in a way that ensured that included themes and activities will be effective for promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). As part of the US-Extremely Large Telescope’s Research Inclusion Initiative, staff have built a Toolkit of Collaborative Practice as a resource to help investigators better understand how to implement impactful themes to best support DEI principles. |

T02.00003: The NASA SMD Bridge Program: An Overview of Findings and Transformative Impact Invited Speaker: Ronald S Gamble The NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) Bridge Program is a new initiative to improve diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the NASA workforce and the broader U.S. science and engineering communities. NASA's SMD is committed to a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility where all employees feel welcome, valued, respected, and engaged. This talk will cover the current state of the profession, needs of the broader scientific community to diversify the field, and provide a formal description how the SMD Bridge Program will contribute in impactful and transformative ways. In addition, an overview of The NASA SMD Bridge Program Workshop will be given that brought together stakeholders to build on the framework established by the Bridge Program Workshop Organizing Committee. The established framework is the collaborative co-creation of a program that increases the diversity of the NASA STEM workforce. |
