Observations of gravitational waves from coalescing binaries: Discoveries from ground-based detectors*

The LIGO Scientific, Virgo and KAGRA Collaboration have completed analysis of data from the first three observing runs of the advanced detector network. The increasing sensitivity of the detector network has resulted in an ever-increasing rate of candidate identification. We will summarise the discoveries from the most recent third observing run. We have found binary black holes spanning the stellar-mass range into the intermediate-mass range; we have also identified the first black hole-neutron star binaries. The binary components have a range of spins, some showing evidence of misalignment. Using the observed catalogue, we can constrain the underlying astrophysical population of gravitational-wave sources
