K12.00001: A search for leptoquarks decaying to muons and bottom quarks in pp collisions at 13 TeV with the CMS detector Gabriel Madigan We present a search for scalar leptoquarks decaying to muons and bottom quarks, using 138 1/fb of data collected by the CMS detector during the 2016-2018 proton-proton running of the LHC. The final state signature considered contains two high-transverse-momentum muons and two jets, one of which is tagged as originating from a bottom quark. Unique to this analysis is a search for leptoquarks decaying to muons with the entire LHC Run II dataset recorded by CMS, and this will be the first search by CMS for leptoquarks in the mumubj channel. |

K12.00002: Search for a doubly charged Higgs decaying to muons or electrons: Prospects for CMS Run III George S Bayliss A variety of exotic models predict a doubly charged Higgs-like particle that can be pair-produced in hadronic interactions via a Drell-Yan-like mechanism. The H++ and H-- can each decay to a pair of like-sign leptons (muons or electrons in this study) with TeV-scale mass, providing a distinctive event signature. We report the results of preliminary studies for the sensitivity of the CMS experiment during Run III. The efficiencies for the signal and major Standard Model backgrounds are determined and an event selection is developed that enhances the sensitivity of the search. We present an estimate of the expected lower limit on the mass of the doubly charged Higgs. |

K12.00003: Search for long-lived particles using out-of-time trackless jets in proton-proton collisions at √ s = 13 TeV Jiajing Mao A search for long-lived particles decaying in the outer regions of the CMS silicon tracker or in the calorimeters is presented. The search is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at √ s = 13 TeV recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. A novel technique, using trackless and out-of-time jet information combined in a deep neural network discriminator, is employed to identify decays of long-lived particles. The results are interpreted in a simplified model of chargino-neutralino production, where the neutralino is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle, is long-lived, and decays to a gravitino and either a Higgs or Z boson. This search is most sensitive to neutralino proper decay lengths of approximately 0.5 m, for which masses up to 1.18 TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. The current search is the best result to date in the mass range from the kinematic limit imposed by the Higgs mass up to 1.8 TeV. |

K12.00004: Search for pair production of excited top quarks in the dileptonic final state in proton-proton collision at 13 TeV Loriza Hasa We discuss cut-based and multivariate analysis techniques for a search for the pair production of excited top quarks T in the decay channel TT->tt->gg. In search of new physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM), the existence of vector-like fermionic top quark partners T is speculated in many theories as an attempt to cancel the quadratic divergences of the top quark loop contributions to the Higgs mass and stabilize the electroweak (EW) scale. The decay of T quark to a top quark and a gluon is dominant due to the strength of the strong coupling. A previous CMS search using the 2016 data have been conducted in the lepton+jets final state. This new search is performed in the dilepton+jets final state using data collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHS in 2017-2018, with an integrated luminosity of 101 fb-1. The limit at 95% confidence level (CL) to evaluate the sensitivity at LHC for top partner masses is expected to be in the range of mT<1.4–1.8 TeV. |

K12.00005: A search for heavy stable charged particles in pp collisions at 13 TeV with the CMS detector Ryan S Kim A search for heavy stable charged particles (HSCPs) is performed using data collected in 2017 and 2018 by the Compact Muon Solenoid detector, with proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. HSCPs are particles theorized to have large masses, long lifetimes, and non-zero electric charge, with anomalous dE/dx in the tracker and delayed arrival in the muon system due to their relatively slow speed. I will present strategies for this HSCP analysis including background estimation methods and systematic uncertainties calculations. |

K12.00006: Search for Heavy Gauge Bosons Decaying to Tau Leptons using Vector Boson Fusion Processes in Proton-proton Collisions at CMS Susan C Olmsted One primary goal of particle physics is to examine the properties of particles and the forces by which they interact. Although physicists have previously used a theoretical framework called the Standard Model (SM) to describe these particles and force interactions, the SM fails to explain several recently discovered phenomena, such as anomalous B-meson decay rates. Therefore, theoretical extensions to the SM called beyond standard model (BSM) frameworks have been introduced to offer solutions to these problems. A common characteristic of BSM frameworks is the manifestation of new particles with TeV-scale masses. These high-mass particles can be probed in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This presentation will describe a search for a heavy spin-1 boson (Z’) with non-universal fermion couplings (NUFC) that uses ditau final states from vector boson fusion (VBF) processes. The analysis is performed using pp data at √(s)=13 TeV collected from the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb-1. The analysis provides the best sensitivity to date for the NUFC models considered, probing Z’ masses up to 2.5 TeV, depending on the Z’ coupling to the SM weak bosons. |

K12.00007: Search for a new spin-1 boson using ATLAS detector data Xola G Mapekula We present the search for signatures of dark matter where the Standard Model Higgs boson decays to a four lepton final state via the decay of two vector bosons through the channel H -> ZdZd -> 4l. In this case, Zd is the dark vector boson and 4l contains electrons and muons which can be 2e2μ, 4e or 4μ. The mass range under consideration for Zd lies between 15 - 60 GeV. Proton-proton collision data from the ATLAS detector was used to conduct this search corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb-1 and a center of mass energy of √s = 13 TeV. No significant excesses were observed. In light of the lack of excesses, 95% CL limits were set on the branching ratio and the mass of the dark vector boson and the mixing parameter κ which is related to the Hidden Abelian Higgs Model used in the search. Improvements on the limits from the previous iteration of the analysis are observed. |
