R03.00001: Theoretical motivation for the WIMP dark mattermodel and probable parameter space Invited Speaker: JiJi Fan In this talk, I will review the theory of the weakly-interacting massive particle (WIMP) as a cold dark matter candidate and its status in light of the current experimental data. I will then discuss the theoretical motivation for the near-future direct detection experiments in the WIMP framework. |
Monday, April 15, 2019 2:06PM - 2:42PM |
R03.00002: Neutrino science in multipurpose dark matter detectors Invited Speaker: Louis Strigari Direct dark matter detection experiments will soon be sensitive to neutrinos from astrophysical sources, including the Sun, the atmosphere, and supernova. This sets an important benchmark for these experiments, and opens up a new window in neutrino physics and astrophysics. I will discuss the physics and astrophysics that can be extracted from the detection of these neutrinos, and highlight how this signal is complementary to accelerator and reactor-based experiments which study neutrinos over the same energy range. |
Monday, April 15, 2019 2:42PM - 3:18PM |
R03.00003: Technologies for Generation 3 Detectors Invited Speaker: Daniel McKinsey I will present an overview of the physics motivations, technologies, and prospects for possible Generation 3 (G3) dark matter direct detection experiments. |
