W1.00002: BANQUET SPEAKER (8:30pm - 9:30pm) Invited Speaker: Jamie Hyneman I am best known as host and Executive Producer of Discovery Channel’s long running series Mythbusters, but I also had a very diverse range of jobs and skills prior to that, ranging from farming, wilderness survival, Russian linguist, sailboat captain, dive master, film effects technician, engineer, inventor, small business owner, to being a lifetime member of both the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators, as well as the National Science Teachers Association. I’ve worked in a concrete testing lab and as a cook in restaurants.\\ \\ The film effects work and then the intense experimentation we did on testing unusual and dangerous situations on Mythbusters in particular was both figuratively -and literally at times- a trial by fire, and was a fantastic education. As a result I’m also a bonafide contingency planning expert.\\ \\ Now that the series is over and I’m kind of over being in front of the camera, I’ve been producing a string of novel devices, some for the military, some for private entities, some just for fun. I recently started consulting on 3D house printing for refugees, as well as I’m working with an aerospace company on cost reduction strategies for getting things into space. I spend most of my time in my shop, M5 Industries Inc, in San Francisco. [Preview Abstract] |
