Integrated Inclinometer in Cosmic Ray Muon Detection*

We designed and printed a muon detection telescope to detect cosmic ray muon flux as a function of the angle to zenith. I made the contribution of an integrated accelerometer to obtain more accurate data on the angle. I used both an Arduino and another processor (ESP32) with higher computing power to modify the already existing muon detector to work with a digital display, a sim card, and accelerometer technology. Using the ESP32 I was able to increase the working memory of the device which allowed me to increase the limited functionality of the original Muon detector and allowed for multiple integrations of different components. I performed troubleshooting for the digital display, the Arduino, and the accelerometer including modifying the hardware and software to obtain more accurate data. This included changing the code from a running display to a timed average as well as using different angled soldering to obtain the highest accuracy data. I then used this modified technology with my team in order to obtain data on the cosmic ray muon flux which we modeled with varying linear regressions.
