We study the vacuum polarization tensor at the component level in a hot and dense medium to understand the propagation of light in a medium. For this purpose we compute each and every component of the vacuum polarization tensor as a function of temperature and chemical potential. We include the statistical corrections to the QED coupling and the electron charge to study this effect. We compute the components of vacuum polarization tensor for different ranges of temperature and chemical potential.
