A1.00002: Exploring the World of the Teeny Tiny at CINT Invited Speaker: An overview of the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) will be presented with an emphasis on the most interesting projects being carried out by CINT users and scientists. CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center (NSRC) operating as a national user facility. It is jointly managed by Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories and is devoted to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials. CINT is one of five NSRCs throughout the U.S. that form an integrated national program which aspires to become a cornerstone of the nation's nanotechnology revolution, contributing to DOE's principal missions in national defense, energy, and the environment while providing an invaluable resource for universities and industries. A1.00003: Particle Physics at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN Invited Speaker: The world will enter a new frontier as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is commissioned. The energy reach of the collider will allow us to address many of the questions concerning the Standard Model and to probe physics previously beyond our reach. In this talk I will discuss the LHC project and the experiments using the facility. [Preview Abstract] |
