The Barrel Timing Layer for the CMS Experiment at the LHC

The Large Hadron Collider is the world’s largest particle collider located near Geneva Switzerland. It will be upgraded in 2026 after its current run finishes in order to account for the increased luminosity of the collider in the future running era, which will allow more particle collisions to occur and create more opportunities for detecting interesting physics. These upgrades include the CMS detector’s new MIP Timing Detector, which will consist of two parts: an endcap timing layer and a barrel timing layer. The BTL is designed to measure the arrival time of charged particles with a precision of 30 ps. This poster discusses the purpose, design, principle of operation, major components, timeline, and positive impact on CMS of the BTL, as well as the progress that the BTL team has made towards finishing assembly of the new timing detector.
