Distance estimate to BL Cap, an RR Lyrae star in Capricorn, using infrared photometry*

RR Lyrae type stars are periodic variables typically found in globular clusters. The period-luminosity relation in infrared is similar for all RR Lyrae variables. This allows these stars to be used as standard candles particularly in the Milky Way galaxy and other nearby systems. Images taken through the Las Cumbres Observatory are used to extract the data for light curve. A phase shift is then applied to refine the data to one complete cycle. Currently, the code to refine the data has been written and test images have been taken to calculate the length each exposure should be for the B, V, Ip, and Zs filters. In the future, images for data collection will be taken. The light curve will then give the period-luminosity relation, and the distance to BL Cap will be calculated.
