In 1945, the ENIAC (one of the first general purpose computers) took up an entire room and required direct wiring of components to program. In 1995, an equivalent microchip could fit in the palm of your hand. That same year, the first quantum logic operation was performed in a laboratory that took up an entire room. While large-scale quantum computers will likely remain large-scale operations, thanks to the internet, you can program today’s quantum computers from your laptop. I will discuss this nascent era of programming quantum computers.
