Parameterizing deformation of the ITER fuel injection lines*

Fusion is the process during which two light atomic nuclei combine to form a heavier single nucleus, releasing an enormous amount of energy. The United States Department of Energy Office of Science is a contributing member of ITER, an international project based in France which seeks to demonstrate the feasibility of fusion energy production for peaceful purposes on a powerplant scale. International collaboration members include the United States, China, the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea, and Russia. ITER utilizes a tokamak to magnetically confine burning plasma that serves as a vessel for the fusion reaction. The design and fabrication of the fueling pellet injection system is one of the various systems that US ITER manages. This project aims to parameterize the deformation from misalignment of a section in the designed system.
