The Institute for Robust Quantum Simulation (RQS) has created a three-polarizer demonstration, a hands-on experiment that illustrates a key concept in quantum mechanics. This practical and engaging demonstration is designed to encourage inquiry STEM teachers among middle and high school students in both informal and formal learning environments. Additionally, the professional development workshop incorporates thought experiments that guide teachers in selectively applying features from classical models within an emerging quantum framework.
This presentation offers preliminary insights into the experiences of participating teachers, emphasizing how a physics-centered approach has improved their understanding of quantum concepts and technologies. We will conclude by discussing planned enhancements to our activities based on our evaluations and the broader implications for encouraging more STEM teachers to be comfortable transitioning from fundamental concepts from classical to quantum physics.
