All-Sky Search for Neutrino Point-Sources by Combining IceCube's Track and Cascades Data*

Neutrino astronomy offers a unique window into the most energetic processes in the universe, with detectors like IceCube playing a crucial role in identifying astrophysical sources of high-energy neutrinos. IceCube detects two main types of events: tracks and cascades. Tracks provide excellent angular resolution (≤1°) and are particularly sensitive to sources in the northern hemisphere, while cascades offer better energy resolution, making them more effective in the southern hemisphere. Previously, IceCube searches have relied on either tracks or cascades alone. This analysis represents a significant step forward by being the first to combine both event types, maximizing sensitivity and leveraging the strengths of each. Our all-sky point-source search revealed that this approach not only improves sensitivity but also uncovers a previously unidentified neutrino hotspot.
