Quantum phases of a bilayer system of dipolar bosons with antiparallel polarization*

Motivated by recent experimental setups discussed in arXiv:2302.07209, our study delves into the exploration of the ground state phase diagram for dipolar bosons within a bilayer configuration featuring antiparallel intra-layer interactions. Employing the quantum Monte Carlo method with a worm algorithm in continuum, we investigate the ground state phase diagram as a function of inter-particle distance (rs) and the separation between the two layers (dz). This comprehensive investigation has uncovered rich phases, including superfluid phases, a square lattice crystal phase, and a triangular crystal phase. Furthermore, we have probed the possible existence of distinct superfluid phases within this system. The outcomes of our study have significant implications for experimental research, provide valuable insights into the parameter space for the detection of these intriguing quantum phases especially two possible distinct superfluid phases.
