Emerging spin density wave in cobalt intercalated TMD*

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are known to host a great variety of physical phenomena associated with superconductivity, charge density waves, and magnetism. One of the most extensively studied materials of this family is 2H-TaSe₂. This particular polymorph presents a variety of rich physical properties including charge density waves, however, upon intercalating transition metal cations, TMDs have been shown to display distinct phases. Here we present the cobalt intercalated 2H-Co_1/4TaSe₂ with an emerging spin density wave (SDW) transition associated with the antiferromagnetic structure solved via neutron powder diffraction. We further complement the SDW characterization and itinerant nature of this system with anisotropic magnetization, specific heat, and resistivity transport measurements.
