Novel Readout for Quantum Annealing*

The European consortium Annealing-Based Variational Quantum Processors (AVaQus) project is committed to developing a prototype for coherent quantum annealing. In this study, we introduce an innovative readout circuitry designed to maintain flux qubit coherence. The unique feature of this readout system is its ability to directly discern the direction of the persistent currents in the qubit loop, closely following the standard dispersive readout methods in circuit QED. In addition, our method allows the readout circuit to decouple from the qubit, thanks to the presence of a dc-SQUID in the readout resonator circuitry. We will be presenting a comparison between the new readout system and a standard coplanar waveguide resonator readout method, both connected to the same qubit. The results gathered from this study will determine the readout circuitry employed in the final AVaQus prototype chip.
