SU(3) discrete truncated Wigner method for dissipative dynamics of strongly interacting Bose gases in optical lattices*

Recently, optical lattice systems loaded with ultracold gases have been utilized as analog quantum simulators for open quantum many-body systems, where the strength of dissipation can be controlled via external parameters. Towards establishing a numerical tool to analyze outputs from such quantum simulators for open systems, here we generalize and utilize a semiclassical SU(3) discrete truncated Wigner method to describe real time evolution of a three-dimensional dissipative Bose-Hubbard model in the presence of local two body losses. We numerically demonstrate that our method can qualitatively describe suppression of coherent tunneling processes between adjacent lattice sites induced by the continuous quantum Zeno effect, which has been observed in a recent experiment.
