Visualization and light-induced control of rotational electronic orders on layered chalcogenides*

Recent advancements in light-induced control of ultrafast and metastable electronic phenomena have demonstrated significant breakthroughs, particularly in charge-ordered and excitonic materials. In this talk, we employ pulsed lasers and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) to offer visualizations of the electronic structure in layered chalcogenides, known for their distinctive charge orders. Our investigation reveals the coexistence of energetically degenerate rotational electronic domains and suggests that these domains predominantly manifest on the material's surface, resulting in defects exhibiting chirality. Furthermore, we are revealing the effects of controlling these electronic structure and charge orders through light-induced phenomena using strong laser pulses.
