The Heisenberg-Kitaev quantum spin liquid candidate NaRuO2*

Frustrated structures of transition metal ions have been saught after as possible candidates for the Kitaev quantum spin liquid, one of the leading models for QSL, due to its suggested mechanism for realization of topologically protected qubits Using a unique approach to solid state synthesis, we were able to create the polycrystaline Heisenberg Kitaev QSL candidate NaRuO2- a combination of spin orbit coupling & frustrated lattice create a disordered magnetic ground state that follows the necessary theoretical footsteps for a HKQSL, and is an exciting candidate for the experimental realization of this class of materials.
