Electrophotonic tuning of 2D GeS via Organometallic Intercalation*

The unique properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials are exemplified in the distinctive features of group IV monochalcogenides, particularly demonstrated by GeS. To achieve optimal integration of these materials into devices, it is essential to optimize and tune their properties. Electrochemical intercalation provides an effective method for controlling these properties. Here, we use redox-active organometallic molecules as intercalants to functionalize the electronic and photonic properties of atomically thin GeS. Through advanced computations, we show the enhancement of the optoelectronic and dilute magnetic semiconductive properties, offering a promising pathway for advanced GeS devices. Our results provide a unique pathway for tuning the properties of layered structures, particularly tailored for high-performance electrophotonic applications.
