Progress Towards an All-Optical Quantum Diamond Magnetometer*

Precision magnetometry via nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamond typically utilizes microwaves to drive the center's spin state transitions. However, delivering microwaves becomes technically challenging in extreme environments such as inside a nuclear fusion reactor. Under such conditions, an all-optical quantum diamond magnetometer offers a microwave-free approach to measuring magnetic fields. Measurements can be made by leveraging the fact that an NV-center's fluorescence quenches in the presence of an off-axis magnetic field. In this poster, we present basic principle and experimental progress towards this all-optical quantum diamond magnetometer.
