Thermal management in on-chip superconducting coherent terahertz emitters with engineered cavities*

On-chip BSCCO-based layered high-temperature superconducting emitters are sources of high-power coherent millimetre (mm)-waves, and terahertz (THz) photons, and have been used in various applications from imaging, to sensing and spectroscopy. Thermal management is one important factor in developing power-efficient and stable cryogenic mm-waves and THz photon sources, especially for their applications in next-generation telecommunication networks. Here, we analytically and experimentally study heat management and thermal analysis of BSCCO superconducting photon sources with engineered cavities.
