The percolation limit for stripe correlations in cuprates and the onset of strange-metal behavior*

A variety of measurements on La_2-xSr_xCuO₄ and related cuprates can be interpreted consistently in terms spin and charge stripe correlations that percolate across the CuO₂ planes at lower hole concentrations p, but reach a percolation threshold at p ~ 0.19 [1].  Beyond this point, regions with quasiparticles percolate within and between the planes.  The impact of scattering from the residual stripe patches likely contributes to the observed strange-metal behavior at p > 0.19 [1].  The data supporting this perspective, and the role of intrinsic disorder, will be discussed.
