Commissioning of a commercial superconducting 9-qubit quantum processor at Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory*

The Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems (SQMS) center, one on the five National Quantum Information Science Research Centers, aims to advance state-of-the-art quantum science and technology. In this context, SQMS will commission a superconducting 36-qubit quantum processor (QPU) in Fermilab. This QPU will be developed in collaboration with Rigetti and incorporates the state-of-the-art technologies resulting from the research activities of the center into coherence improvement. The commissioning of a commercial 9-qubit quantum processor with tunable couplers from Rigetti is part of the roadmap towards this goal and will be the first superconducting QPU commissioned in a USA based National Lab. In this talk we will discuss the challenges, our progress, and results on the commissioning of this 9-qubit QPU. This includes wiring, shielding, opensource controls, software, and operations. We will finish the talk with an outline towards the 36-qubit QPU.
