simulator for exotic quantum many-body phases. Recent experimental progress
has been made for the realization of a Z2 topological spin liquid or the toric
code phase, which is described by an emergent Z2 gauge theory. Following
recent theoretical advances on the origin of the emergent gauge theories in
the platform owing to a combination of its native van der Waals interactions
and lattice geometries, we investigate the vison excitations, which are vortex
excitations that carry magnetic fluxes. We also discuss their relevance to
experimental verifications of the topological ground state.
