In the last decade the dense suspension community has made multiple breakthroughs allowing for fundamentally new approaches in understanding the rheology of these materials. Despite these breakthroughs, most of this work has focused almost exclusively on dense suspensions undergoing simple shear deformations. In this work, we report on the response of dense suspensions undergoing both extensional and shear deformations simultaneously to observe how these materials behave under conditions that are ubiquitous in nature and industry. We find that the suspension's response to shear and extensional deformations is coupled, owing to the dense percolated microstructure of frictionally interacting particles. These results provide a step towards understanding dense suspension rheology beyond simple shear and instead under generic flow conditions.
