J67.00001: 2021 Lee Osheroff Richardson Science Prize Winner Presentation Bruce Gaulin In this session Bruce Gaulin, Professor at McMaster University and Chair of the Lee Osheroff Richardson (LOR) Science Prize Committee will introduce the recently announced 2021 LOR Science Prize winner, Dr. Matthew Yankowitz. The LOR Science Prize promotes and recognizes the novel work of young scientists working in low temperatures and/or high magnetic fields in the Americas. Dr. Yankowitz will overview his recent work exploring moiré van der Waals heterostructures constructed by stacking and twisting sheets of graphene. His work has uncovered a wide array of strongly correlated and topological electronic states in these platforms. These states can be controlled experimentally by changing the charge doping, electric field, twist angle, and more. He has also developed new high pressure techniques to dynamically control the properties of these states within a single device, and demonstrated that superconductivity in twisted bilayer graphene can be tuned with pressure. |
