The African Synchrotron Light Source (AfLS)

Africa is the only habitable continent without a synchrotron light source. An interim Steering Committee held a major conference on November 16-20, 2015 at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France to bring together African scientists, policy makers, and stakeholders to discuss the possibility of a synchrotron light source in Africa. The use of light sources as a premier tool for research was highlighted for a broad range of disciplines. A Roadmap towards a synchrotron in Africa was discussed. Firm outcomes of the Conference were a set of Resolutions and a Roadmap document, with the election of a Steering Committee. (www.africanlightsource.org).
