As a member of the JPS diversity promotion committee, I will discuss the progress, current status and future challenges in confronting the DEIB issues in Japan.
The JPS has about 15,000 members, of whom about 1,000 are women. The majority of JPS members are affiliated with either a university or a research institute. The membership includes the most important Japanese physics researchers. Each year, more than 1,500 new members join the JPS, and the proportion of women has typically been around 10% since 2000. I will discuss the current situation and activities to achieve a better situation of DEIB in the physics society in Japan.
