Multi-neutron experiments with MoNA-LISA*

The Modular Neutron Array and Large multi-Institutional Scintillator Array (MoNA-LISA) were primarily used for measurements of neutron-unbound states using invariant mass spectroscopy at the former National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory and are now at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams. Making measurements of neutron-unbound states near or beyond the neutron dripline opens the possibility of decays of nuclei by more than one neutron. Such processes allow for studies of nuclear structure and decay dynamics through the correlations between the neutrons and daughter nuclei. Key examples studied by MoNA-LISA previously include ²⁶O and ¹⁶Be. Careful analysis is performed to reduce the effects of single neutron scattering events that produce multiple hits in the array, in order to distinguish them from true multi-neutron events. Examples of recent and on-going MoNA-LISA experiments as well as the techniques to select multi-neutron emission events will be discussed.
